Samsung Galaxy S3:
Long expected to make appearance in 2012, the much awaited next gen smartphone from Samsung, Samsung Galaxy S3 is scheduled to be released next week in London, in the run up to the Olympics. However, Samsung has confirmed that the new phone will use quad core processors.
Galaxy S3 Processor:
Samsung has confirmed that Galaxy S3 will be shipping out with the new Exynos 4 SOC Processor. It is based on the quad core ARM Cortex A9 SOC (system on chip, an integrated circuit (IC) that integrates all components of a computer or other electronic system into a single chip). The chip is rumored to clock 1.4 GHz and consumes very low power. On comparison with Exynos Dual, it clocks twice the speed with 20% less power consumption.
The advantage of the new processor? 4 cores. So if one core is handling the video that you are buffering, the other core is busy downloading the apps you wanted. Add to the fact that it will ensure a marginally better battery life, its a win win situation. The new quad core processor also supports a full HD 30fps video hardware codec engine for HD 1080p video and gaming, and a 1:4 HDMI interface to output content from your new Galaxy S3 on the big screen or through a projector.
Being pin-to-pin compatible with its predecessor Exynos 4 Dual, we can also expect older phones to be beefed up to Galaxy S3 processing levels. Commenting on the new chip, Taehoon Kim, VP of System LSI Marketing at Samsung, said:
The quad core processor offers phenomenal multitasking abilities, surpassing any single or dual core application processor. Since all the cores must share a single battery, power management and efficiency in the limited single battery capacity are indispensible for mobile computing devices.
