Google’s Next Android OS Is Named Jelly Bean?

If the new sculpture that has been added to the Android garden at Google is to be believed, it is more or less certain that the next Android OS will be named Jelly Bean

Why Jelly Bean?

A sculpture put up at the garden, which has all previous versions of Android OS on display as sculptures, literally “spilled the beans” on what Google wanted to name its next OS. Google has named its Android OS in an alphabetic order, on the names of eatables, namely Cupcake (1.5), Donut (1.6), Eclair (2.0 and 2.1), Froyo (2.2), Gingerbread (2.3.x), Honeycomb (3.x.x), Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.x), which was the latest to be released last year in October.

This sculpture led to believing that the next Android OS is to be named Jelly Bean

Such happened even during the time Ice Cream Sandwich was released in October, with a sculpture joining the sculptures of Cupcake, Donut, Froyo, Gingerbread and Honeycomb in Sept 2011, and Google officially released the ICS in October. With the Google I/O going on today (June 27) we can expect to see Jelly Bean being unveiled, and also we might expect the Google Nexus 7 tab to be unveiled too !!

In a video, a truck is seen bringing in a large crate to Google’s office and Googlers are seen waiting and unloading the contents of the crate, which look like large Jelly Beans. This was another sign that the new version WILL be named Jelly Bean, as I comes before J (OK, that was common sense). Here is the video.

Will Jelly Bean be 4.1 or 5.0?

While earlier it was being rumoured that the new Android version will be version 5.0, Google let out a slip in the following photo, (sorry I forgot the source) where it had mentioned that Nexus tab will be coming with Android 4.1 Jell.. we believe it means Jelly Bean.

The Jelly Bean OS will be running on wide screen mobiles and tabs, and most probably the Nexus 7 tablet, along with many others. However, Google must make sure it does not overshoot, as not many phones have still been updated to Android ICS, running only on phones like HTC 1X and recently launched Samsung Galaxy S3.

The Jelly Bean OS is scheduled to be rolled out in Q2, taking on the launch of iOS 6 and the iPhone 5, which is still not confirmed.

Update- The Jelly Bean OS has been unveiled !!
